Terra Nova introduces new crocosmia variety
Terra Nova Nurseries has introduced crocosmia ‘Nova Ember,’ the fourth variety in the series.
The perennial features orange flowers with coral edging and an upright growth habit. It is suited for mixed beds, borders and cut flower use, and forms non-invasive clumps.
‘Nova Ember’ blooms from June through August and grows to about 28 inches tall and 16 inches wide, with flower spikes reaching 36 inches. It is hardy in Zones 7 to 9 and performs in full sun to partial shade in well-drained soil.
The variety is also described as a pollinator plant and is noted for relatively low water needs.
For growers, finish time from a liner to a 4-inch pot is six to eight weeks and 10 to 12 weeks for a 1-gallon container. The company recommends allowing the crop to dry slightly between waterings in greenhouse production.
