Poinsettia Wins Best Flower Award in Japan

Dümmen Orange's 'Poinsettia Gold' received the Best Flower Award from the Japan Flower Selection (JFS).

Dümmen Orange’s ‘Poinsettia Gold’ received the Best Flower Award from the Japan Flower Selection (JFS). The variety is also known as ‘Autumn Leaves’. The JFS selected nine varieties for the “Best Flower Award” in the potted plant category for the Japanese market. The JFS aims to award world’s best varieties and improve the Japanese customer’s experience by recommending which products to buy. These awards are among the most competitive in the Japanese market and are subsidized by the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture.

Companies can nominate their products seasonally and one of Dümmen Orange’s agents, Hakusan Co. Ltd, nominated the new variety ‘Poinsettia Gold.’ Masashi Fujiwara, marketing manager for Hakusan, saw a huge interest from retailers and consumers for this new color in poinsettias. ‘Poinsettia Gold’ has an apricot-gold color that fits the general trends of copper and white in home decorations very well, the company said. The breeder is Ruth Kobayashi, working for Dümmen Orange at the Ecke Ranch in Encinitas, California.
