Russell’s Keeps Up Foot Traffic with Winter MarketsSource: MetroWest Daily News

A winter farmers market begins this Saturday (Jan. 8) in the greenhouses of Russell’s Garden Center, Wayland, Mass., and will feature 35 vendors, reports the MetroWest Daily News.

The winter market runs during the slowest time of year for many garden centers – weekly on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. through March 12. Farmers who grow using high tunnels, grow hydroponically and utilize winter storage will offer fresh vegetables.

As the host and setting for the Wayland Winter Farmers Market, Russell’s has become the epicenter for everything local in the Wayland community, not to mention an escape from the winter cold.

In August, legislation passed that allowed farm wineries to attend farmers’ markets, offer tastings and sell bottled wines. To celebrate this bill’s passing, the Wayland market will feature a “Massachusetts Farm Wineries Day” at the end of the month.
