Seed Your Future connects students with horticulture careers at Cultivate’26

Seed Your Future expanded its Career Day program at Cultivate’26, bringing 43 students and educators from across the U.S. to the trade show for hands-on career exploration in horticulture. The event is part of a broader initiative that has reached more than 150 students and educators at industry trade shows this year.

The program introduced participants to careers across the horticulture industry through guided tours of 39 exhibitor booths representing growers, nurseries, designers, brokers and other businesses. Students and educators were led by Master Gardener volunteers, Seed Your Future volunteers and industry professionals.

Lionel van der Walt, president of AmericanHort, encouraged participants to build professional relationships during the event, while Broch Martindale, president of Seed Your Future, said exposing students to the industry’s range of career opportunities is a key objective of the program.

Participants said the experience highlighted career paths in areas including marketing, production, agricultural technology and plant breeding. Exhibitors also emphasized the need to attract the next generation of horticulture professionals and welcomed opportunities to connect directly with students.

The program concluded with one student receiving an on-site internship interview with an exhibiting company, illustrating the networking opportunities available through the event.

Seed Your Future’s next trade show Career Day is scheduled for The Landscape Show in Orlando, Florida, in August, where approximately 50 high school students are expected to participate.
