Touring Music City By Teresa McPherson

Snapshots from the Garden Centers of America's 2019 Summer Tour in Nashville, Tennessee.

In June, I had the opportunity to attend the GCA’s Summer Tour in Nashville, Tennessee, where I spent three days touring garden centers not as a customer, as I would have in my previous life, but as an L&GR editor. Here are a few snapshots of some of the things that caught my eye on the tour.

Next month I’ll share even more photos from my trip to Music City.

Colorful paper lanterns strung along one doorway at Moore & Moore Garden Center add extra color to an already colorful display of annuals and perennials inside the store.

JVI Secret Gardens creates little vignettes throughout the property. Here, the dinosaurs are alive again and tucked away as a little surprise among ceramic planters in a shelf unit.
Got questions? The information booth at Martin’s Home & Garden in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, has the answers with knowledgeable staff — and fact sheets to hand out on such topics as how to attract hummingbirds to your garden or tips for treating blossom end rot. Double-sided maps of the store are also available there, with a diagram on one side of the page and details of what to find in each section of the store.
Known more as a gardener’s gift store rather than a traditional garden center, Yarrow Acres in downtown Franklin, Tennessee, depends on clever use of space to display its eclectic selection in a small location. Here, a metal hen house now is home to a colorful selection of bath balms, each of which is named after a song, such as “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” and “Amazing Grace.”
