Weston Nurseries expands with acquisition of Stonegate Gardens
Weston Nurseries announced it has acquired Stonegate Gardens in Lincoln, Massachusetts, to operate under the Weston Nurseries name.
Weston Nurseries currently has stores in Hopkinton, Chelmsford and Hingham, Massachusetts. In an email to customers, owners Karen and Peter Mezitt said they are “transitioning the existing Stonegate Gardens space and expect to open soon.”
Stonegate Gardens was run by Lynne Bower-MacDowell for the past 25 years. Her husband Bruce built the greenhouse, barn and the property that it is today, according to the email.
Last year, after Lynne died, the Mezitts write that Bruce contacted them with the opportunity to run the garden center operation under the Weston name.
“We are thankful to Bruce for giving us this opportunity and we are very excited with the possibilities that lie ahead with this terrific location in the Boston suburbs,” they write.
Also included in the email was a statement from Bruce MacDowell:
My wife Lynne and I started Stonegate over 25 years ago. We built it with love and passion. As you may know my wife Lynne passed away on March 19, 2023. Lynne was greatly responsible for the uniqueness and success of Stonegate over the years. After much heartfelt thought we have made an arrangement with Peter and Karen Mezitt of Weston Nurseries to operate the garden center.
The Mezitt family has successfully run Weston Nurseries for over 100 Years. Lynne and I have been good friends with Peter and Karen for many years. We wanted to put Stonegate in the hands of a family with multiple generations of wisdom and experience operating nurseries and garden centers.
As of January 1, Stonegate Gardens will become Weston Nurseries. We thank you for being loyal customers for many years and hope you’ll continue being customers of Weston Nurseries.
