FloraLife transitioning to post-consumer recycled material containers

FloraLife, a division of Smithers-Oasis, has announced that it is moving toward post-consumer recycled (PCR) material containers. The containers included in the changeover are 5-, 10- and 20-liter containers across all product lines, with other sizes to follow.

Initially, the products packaged in PCR containers will be available in Europe and Colombia, South America, with plans to move to other areas globally, including the U.S. The containers in Europe are made from 100% PCR content and in Colombia, from 65% PCR content. The PCR packaging can also be recycled at the end of its life.

“We wanted to make sure we weren’t just focusing on the end of life of the packaging, as there is no guarantee it will be recycled,” said Mark Allen, global product and sustainability manager. “Using recycled content in the containers guarantees either all or a certain portion of the packaging has already had a life before.”

FloraLife will be implementing its new PCR packaging along with its new, rebranded labels as a rolling change over the upcoming months.
