Monrovia to feature more than 400 varieties during Centennial Week
Monrovia will expand its Centennial Celebration Week in August with a breeders’ showcase featuring more than 400 perennial and shrub varieties at its headquarters in Dayton, Oregon.
The five-day event, scheduled for Aug. 24-28, will include displays from more than a dozen plant breeding companies. Many of the varieties on display have not yet been introduced to the market. Breeder representatives will be available throughout the event to discuss new plant genetics and answer attendee questions.
Participating breeders include Bull Plant Genetics, Concept Plants, Danziger, Darwin Perennials, Green Fuse Botanicals, Green Trade, Intrinsic Perennials, Monrovia, PlantHaven, Plants Nouveau, Syngenta Flowers, Terra Nova Nurseries and Tesselaar Plants. The trial gardens are managed by Fela Lafi, Monrovia trials manager, with support from Georgia Clay, Monrovia new plants manager.
“The Breeders’ Showcase is a great opportunity for attendees to get a first look at more than 400 perennial and shrub varieties,” said Joey Wiseman, director of ThinkPlants.
The showcase is part of Monrovia’s Centennial Celebration Week, which marks the company’s 100th anniversary. Other activities include nursery tours, new plant presentations, marketing clinics, retailer workshops and an anniversary celebration.
Jonathan Pedersen, Monrovia president and CEO, said the event will recognize the company’s history while highlighting future opportunities for the horticulture industry.
