PanAmerican Seed breeds first three AAS winners for 2027

All-America Selections (AAS) has announced the first three National Winners for the 2027 gardening season, recognizing an impatiens, sunflower and vinca bred by PanAmerican Seed. The announcement marks the first time a single breeding company has developed all of the first winners released for an upcoming AAS season.

The 2027 winners are impatiens ‘Solarscape XL Red Glow’ (top, left), sunflower ‘Always Sunny Gold’ (center) and vinca ‘Tattoo Boysenberry’ (right). Each earned National Winner status following evaluations by independent volunteer judges across North America, where the varieties were compared with similar commercial entries.

According to AAS, ‘Solarscape XL Red Glow’ produces iridescent red flowers with violet centers and grows about 20% larger than standard Solarscape varieties while performing in both sun and shade.

‘Always Sunny Gold’ sunflower reaches about 5 feet tall, is pollen-free and remains in bloom at least two weeks longer than comparable varieties. The branching habit also eliminates the need for pinching to encourage multiple blooms.

‘Tattoo Boysenberry’ vinca features dark purple-red flowers with a boysenberry-colored pattern and was recognized for its heat and drought tolerance, along with continuous flowering through summer without deadheading.

The early announcement gives brokers, growers and retailers additional time to incorporate the winning varieties into 2027 product offerings.
